News!
A Long-Awaited Thaw, Hollow Oak Book III is out NOW!Dec 5: Is anyone really born evil? What about your worst enemy, someone who has only caused you pain and suffering? If your mortal enemy needed your help, how far would you go to help them? These are the questions Dizzy, Kyle, and Scarlett, along with the animals at the Haven grapple with this winter in Oak Hollow. When Morag and his rats are captured for scientific experiments, our heroes, both human and animal, decide whether or not to risk their lives to rescue them. After all, as Willow, the old blind mouse says, there’s only two ways to deal with a mortal enemy. You either have to be prepared to kill every last one of them, or you try to turn them into something else. Perhaps a friend?

Their trip through the Hollow Oak is complicated when they are followed by an angry Troy MacNamara, looking for a way to get even with Kyle after their earlier fight at the swimming pool. Meanwhile, a band of rats travel the woods with a deadly container, looking for their own revenge against the town of Oak Hollow. Can Dizzy and Kyle, with their friends from the Haven, stop the rats before everyone in their town is killed? Or will the cycle of revenge and anger continue in spite of their best efforts? The Tunnel Through the Trees (Hollow Oak Book 1) by John Norment is out NOW!Dizzy Vasquez has always had a hard time fitting into everyone else’s definition of “normal.” New to the town of Oak Hollow, Dizzy can see her tomboy looks and fascination with fantasy causing her to once again be the target of jokes and bullying from her new classmates when school starts in the fall. When Dizzy and her new neighbor, Kyle, follow the town drunk into the woods one night, they find themselves shrunk to the size of mice. Befriended by a young fellow-misfit mouse, the friends must discover the fate of a missing girl, help a community of animals fight off a horde of attacking rats, and rescue Dizzy’s sister from the tyrannical Rat Witch. They also need to decide if the power that brought them there, the mystical Hollow Oak, is truly a chance for them to live one of the fantasy adventures they’ve always read about; or if it is just a cunning trap that has lured them to their doom!
The Tunnel Through the Trees is the first installment of The Hollow Oak series. (We did the doodles!) Edelweiss has three separate shops at the Bazaaar: Fantastic Animals, Animated Animals, and Bird Prints. Check it out! We're on the cover of Strong Work: Struggles and Opportunities in Illness and Recovery, by John NormentSep 2020: John Norment had always told his students not to shy away from things just because they are difficult; that struggles are merely opportunities. He never had to live those words, though. That is, not until a virus all but destroyed his heart, left him on life support in a coma, only to awaken paralyzed by multiple strokes. Strong Work is about how seeing struggles as opportunities helped him recover physically, cognitively, and emotionally. It's about how this mindset helped him to go from complete paralysis to completing a full marathon all in 18 months. Told with honesty and humor, Strong Work is a testament to what’s possible if one simply keeps putting one foot in front of the other.

"People say that, “a picture is worth a thousand words,” and this is never more true than in the world of illustrators. The definition of an illustration is “a picture or diagram that makes something clear or attractive.” The six artists represented in this exhibition demonstrate not only their technical skills in rendering worlds both real and imaginary, but also create dynamically different aesthetics through their chosen media." Nov. 15th, 2016: It's time to enhance a little one's vocabulary! Black Rose Writing's new children's series, MY FAVORITE WORD, is now available.
"What’s one of your favorite words? Mine is arcane. Here, I’ll use it in a sentence… I’m writing an arcane story. One that you should share with all of your friends. " Nov. 19th, 2015: We are so happy to announce the release of our first children's picture book My Favorite Part of the Day, available at Barnes & Noble and Amazon!
“What was your favorite part of the day?” Bing’s Mom asks him every night at dinner. From chasing dragons to scoring the winning goal, the answers to this simple question show how a child’s imagination can turn the everyday into the epic. Official Press Release |
